Meet Your Doula
My name is Aja!
I'm a passionate and dedicated doula, trained through Birth in Color RVA. My work is rooted (quite literally) in grace, love, and a calling I’ve felt my entire life—to advocate for the seed. Whether it’s supporting a baby’s first breath or helping mothers plant themselves in confidence and peace, this is the work I was made to do.

My journey into birth work is deeply personal. Losing my niece, Grace, at 19 weeks gestation profoundly shaped the way I view life, pregnancy, and the sacredness of birth. Grace’s impact on my heart showed me how important it is to create spaces where mothers and families feel seen, heard, and cared for—before, during, and after the birthing process. Her memory inspires every step I take as I walk alongside the families I support.
I’ve always loved babies (seriously, I could hold them all day) and wanted to become a neonatal specialized pediatrician when I was younger. Life didn’t lead me down that path, but being a doula is proof that my purpose was always waiting for me. Attending births is where my heart thrives. Watching women tap into their strength and walk through one of the most transformative moments of their lives? There’s nothing like it.

I’ve had the privilege of attending many births, and I show up ready to serve. Whether it’s hands-on support like counterpressure, guiding through breathing techniques, or simply being a calming presence, my goal is to meet each mother where she is. I love collaborating with midwives, attending prenatal appointments, and ensuring my clients feel fully supported. But my care doesn’t stop there—postpartum is just as important. From processing birth experiences to offering practical tips (and maybe snacks), I’m here to make sure mothers know they’re not alone in this new season.

My approach is simple: empathy, respect, and unwavering support. Every birth, every family, and every journey is unique, and I’m here to help them thrive. Being a doula is more than a profession for me—it’s my calling, my heart, and my way of advocating for the seeds that grow into families, love, and legacies.
Grace’s life inspires me to bring compassion, strength, and intention to every birth I attend. If you’re looking for someone who’s all-in for your journey, cheering you on, and holding space for you every step of the way, I’m here.

When and why should I hire a doula?
How much do you charge for doula services?
It's ideal to hire a doula as early in your pregnancy as possible. This allows for a strong foundation of trust and understanding to be built between us, ensuring comprehensive support throughout your entire journey. A doula provides personalized support, advocates for your birth preferences, and enhances your overall experience. Research shows that having a doula can lead to shorter labors, reduced need for interventions, and improved satisfaction with the birth process.

Can I have a doula if I'm being induced, having a caesarean birth, or planning to use medications for pain?
Absolutely! Having a doula can be beneficial in various birthing scenarios, including inductions, cesarean births, and when using medications for pain relief. Here's how a doula can support you in each situation:
-
Induced Labor:
-
A doula can provide emotional support during the induction process, helping you understand the procedures involved and offering comfort.
-
Continuous support during labor, even if it's induced, has been shown to improve outcomes and reduce the need for certain interventions.

-
Cesarean Birth:
-
Doulas can offer emotional support, help you understand the cesarean process, and be a calming presence in the operating room.
-
While a doula cannot replace medical professionals during surgery, they can provide support before and after the procedure, including assisting with initial bonding and breastfeeding.
-
-
Medications for Pain Relief:
-
Doulas are experienced in various pain relief techniques, including comfort measures and positioning, which can complement the effects of medications.

A doula can help you explore and understand your pain relief options, supporting your choices and ensuring you have a positive birthing experience.

Regardless of the birth plan, a doula's role is to support your choices, provide information, and be a continuous, non-judgmental presence.
